Tokyo Arrow

Tokyo Arrow is the artist pseudonym of Daniel Arrowsmith, a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from northeast England. From an early age, he was captivated by words and melody, drawing on 1980s classics, the mid-2000s British folk resurgence, and the indie revival scene. At 11, he picked up guitar, beginning a lifelong creative path. Since then, he has fronted numerous bands as lead vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter, steadily refining his craft.

During his teens, while the UK indie scene thrived, Daniel attended a music-focused high school and technical college, where his curiosity expanded beyond Western music toward global traditions. He immersed himself in Sri Lankan rhythms, Indonesian gamelan, Middle Eastern ensembles, and Japanese rock and pop. These explorations deepened his fascination with Japan, leading him to learn the language, relocate, and build his life and career there.

Now based in Tokyo, Daniel creates as Tokyo Arrow, blending his British roots with the colours and soul of his adopted home. His music combines the introspection of British indie, the storytelling of folk, and the melodic sensibility of Japanese pop. More recently, he has drawn on Okinawan influences, weaving the sanshin into a unique East–West fusion.

Tokyo Arrow’s songs are marked by honesty, melancholy, and resilience, often exploring memory, place, and identity. His voice, paired with shimmering guitars and layered arrangements, recalls his 80s influences while remaining unmistakably personal and modern. With over two decades of performing and songwriting experience, Daniel has forged a sound that resonates across borders — reflecting both his journey from England to Japan and his lifelong devotion to music as a language universal.

Tokyo Arrow（東京之矢）は、イギリス北東部出身のシンガーソングライター／マルチインストゥルメンタリスト、アロースミス・ダニエルのアーティスト名です。幼少期から言葉とメロディに魅了され、1980年代のクラシックサウンド、2000年代半ばのフォーク復興、インディー・リバイバルの熱気から影響を受けました。11歳でギターを手にして以来、5つ以上のバンドでボーカルやソングライターを務め、表現力を磨いてきました。

10代の頃、インディー・シーンが最盛期を迎える中、音楽専門の高校・カレッジに進学し、英米に留まらず世界の音楽に触れました。スリランカのリズム、インドネシアのガムラン、中東のアンサンブル、日本の叙情歌などを通じて、日本への関心を深め、言語習得と移住、音楽活動へと繋がっていきます。

現在は東京を拠点にTokyo Arrowとして活動し、イギリスのルーツと日本で得た感性を融合。音楽はインディーの内省性、フォークの物語性、日本ポップの旋律感を併せ持ち、近年は沖縄音楽や三線を取り入れ、東西の響きを結び付けています。

Tokyo Arrowの楽曲は正直さと哀愁、そして強さをテーマに、記憶・場所・アイデンティティを描きます。80年代の影響を思わせる声とギターに現代的な響きを重ね、独自のスタイルを確立。20年以上の経験を活かし、国境を越えて届く音楽を追求し続けています。
